Democrats Like Natural Gas – Calling it “Clean Energy”

Eagle Ford’s gas window is looked upon favorably by the Democratic party.  Calling it “Clean Energy” which is an about face from their previous platforms.

They know it’s bringing jobs and lessening our dependence on foreign oil – all popular points to get the vote.

Seems folks will say just about anything to get elected these days.

Although, they still don’t care much for Big Oil.

Eagle Ford Update From the Federal Reserve

The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas gave an update on Eagle Ford in this 2012 Second Quarter Report…..

….Its southern edge begins near Laredo

and trends northeast toward Austin, producing
large quantities of natural gas. The northern
edge—the formation is about 50 miles
wide—follows a similar trend but produces
oil. A central zone is rich in condensates,
also called natural gas liquids, valuable to the
refining and petrochemical industry on the
Texas Gulf Coast.

The World is Watching Eagle Ford

Like it or not, the Eagle Ford oil and gas play in South Texas has gained the attention of the international oil and gas community – and the world.

Maria van der Hoeven, executive director of the International Energy Agency toured the Eagle Ford area last week, hosted by Shell Oil. The next day she spoke at the Baker Institute at Rice University in Houston

Van der Hoeven quoted the US Energy Information Administration figures on the historic rise of unconventional gas – going from zero, 25 years ago to 23% of total gas production in the United States in 2010.

She went on to say: “Industry must win public confidence by demonstrating exemplary performance; and governments must ensure that appropriate policies and regulatory regimes are in place”

“The issue is therefore one of good governance, good management, and good oversight,” she noted….. “These include the implications for water resources, land use and disruption to local communities.”

Translation: It’s up to every employee in the oilfield (from the executives to the truck drivers) to set a good example.

There is so much misinformation going around on Fracking that the common public seems to be confused….. It’s been proven that horizontal drilling and the fracking  associated with it, is no more dangerous to ground water than a convectional vertical well. However, the opponents of fracking are just waiting to point their finger at the first mistake or mishap concerning fracking.

Indeed, the world is watching Eagle Ford.

Will the EPA Crack Down on Eagle Ford After the Election?

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is now using helicopters equipped with infrared cameras to observe and monitor emissions from oil and gas wells in Eagle Ford. They are on the lookout for vapor leaks from open tanks and bad valves, that are otherwise invisible to the naked eye. Read about their helicopters here: http://www.tceq.texas.gov/airquality/barnettshale/bshale-data

Eagle Ford News reported on the new regulations the EPA issued for the oil and gas drilling industry back in April:

Air pollution is bad, no one can argue that.  Having the EPA sniffing around every time  an oilfield hand passes gas…. well that’s a whole other story.

The EPA has a history of using “Air Quality” to regulate and control many different industries.  Environmentalists and gas industry experts alike were surprised at the unusual “hands off” attitude of the EPA in its April ruling.

Well…. It is an election year….. don’t be surprised if the federal government flexes its muscle with the new EPA rules (as their history proves) – once the election is over.

Drilling contractors and operators alike – take note… Big Brother is watching from the sky.

New Eagle Ford Housing Project

Kenedy, Texas is at the heart of the Eagle Ford oil boom and, like the rest of Eagle Ford, is in great need of additional housing.  Fortunately, a 112 bed workforce housing camp just broke ground four miles West of Kenedy, TX on FM 2102 and is expected to be open in September. Frontier Oilfield Solutions will be constructing and managing the man camp.

From the Frontier website : “Customers can expect award winning all you can eat catering, full laundry service, a decked out rec-room, private bathrooms for each room, VIP facilities and more. Please call (361) 645-7222 to book your block of rooms today!”

More Proof – Eagle Ford is the Largest Oilfiled

Simply put – everything is bigger in Texas.

Yes sir.  Eagle Ford wells are producing twice the volume of wells in the Bakken area of North Dakota. These new findings by a Colorado company (IHS) are detailed in the IHS Herold Eagle Ford Regional Play Assessment and is no news to us Texans.

This backs up the findings from our earlier report from UTSA http://eagleford.org/utsa-reported-today-eagle-ford-largest-oilfield-ever-discovered-in-us/

No sir – we didn’t need some Colorado company telling us we’re the biggest – we already knew ; )

Eagle Ford Housing Report From UTSA

It’s no secret.…. Housing in the Eagle Ford area is in high demand.  Yesterday, UTSA researchers released their long anticipated study on housing in the Eagle Ford area.  As predicted, demand will be high for the next decade and beyond and local communities will need to appropriate additional funding to accommodate more schools, public utilities, public service and infrastructure.

The study forecasts three scenarios ranging from 22,000 wells to 52,000 wells over the next 15 years. Highlights of the study focused on Dimmit, Frio, La Salle, Maverick, Webb and Zavala Counties and include:

1. Affordable temporary, mobile and rental housing units are needed to accommodate the region’s new residents. 77.5 percent of the hotels in the region were 90 percent booked by people planning to stay for 30 or more days. “Affordability and sustainability of housing solutions are the most important lessons uncovered by this study,” said Kamal, the study’s principal investigator.

2. UTSA researchers suggest that new permanent housing in the Eagle Ford shale region should include a combination of detached single-family units and attached multi-family units. Mixed-use development is highly needed in the large communities.

3. Housing units in the area need to include a flexible design approach that can adapt to changes in demographics after the extraction activities of oil and gas has ended.

4. The optimal placement for new residential developments is within 15.5 miles driving distance to work sites in the six-county region studied. Strategic locations for new developments include Carrizo Springs (Dimmit County), Crystal City (Zavala County), Dilley and Pearsall (Frio County), Cotulla (La Salle County) and Laredo (Webb County).

About Eagle Ford: The Eagle Ford Shale is a 50 mile-wide by 400 mile-long geological formation that runs from the southern portion of Texas (near Laredo) to the east. The formation produces natural gas, condensate, oil, and natural gas liquids, with profit margins more favorable than other shale plays around the country. according to a study released in May 2012 by the Center for Community and Business Research at the UTSA Institute for Economic Development –  Last year, the 20-county region generated more than $25 billion in revenue for South Texas,.
