Eagle Ford Shale – Most Profitable Oilfield in the World

Many believe that the Eagle Ford Oil and Gas play will become the most profitable oilfield in the world.  The Texas Railroad Commission has already exclaimed that Eagle Ford will be the single best economic event in the history of Texas.  Maybe we shoudl expand that to include the entire world ; )

No Eagle Ford Groundwater Contamination

Report after report prove that fracking is no more likely to cause groundwater contamination than a conventional, vertical well. Of course there are risks with any type of well drilled, so precautions and safety is always a high concern.

Interesting Points:

Page 45: Casing leaks are potential in any type well.

Page 46: The Fractures are too far from ground water to cause concern.
Page 47: Fractures are only several hundred feet long and thousands of feet below ground water.
Page 49: Regulatory officials from eight shale bearing states find zero groundwater contamination.

Less Dependence on Foreign Oil – Good…. However, Texas Refiners Need More Heavy Crude

Eagle Ford and other shale plays are helping the United States get closer to energy independence. Hooray for that.

Now the problem is that many refineries along the US Gulf Coast can only refine a limited amount  of the light, sweet crude coming from Eagle Ford and other shale plays around the country.

refineryat night

Forecasters predict that this imbalance is going to cause a bottleneck in the near future – especially now that the Gulf starting to produce again.

Light crude usually gets a premium price over heavy crude – being easier (less energy) to refine and containing less sulfur.

The oversupply situation is going to drive the price of sweet light crude down, according got forecasters.

Another factor contributing to the downward pricing pressure is that refineries would have to revamp and replace equipment to convert to more light crude oil production.

Heavy crudes also have a more severe environmental impact than light ones (we wonder if the anti-frackers consider that?)

Maybe some of Obama’s 90 Billion in green energy spending would better serve as subsidies to refineries to re-tool and process the “greener” light crude.  Create jobs, support domestic oil, and help the environment. Win – Win – Win.

Matt Damon Anti-Fracking Movie Update

Matt Damon’s anti-fracking movie is hitting a few roadblocks, according to Phelim McAleer , the director of Frack Nation (forthcoming movie to promote fracking).  These roadblocks are coming from holes in their script caused by the truth about fracking. The script is further compromised by the fraud that the anti-fracking folks are being found guilty of in various courtrooms.  These revelations are preventing them from going with the original script.

More Fuzzy Math From Austin, Texas

New report from Austin based “Environment Texas” claims that fracking costs Texans money!  You heard that right – Eagle Ford brings no net monetary value to Texas – It’s just one big sucking sound on our economy.

See the full report at: http://environmenttexas.org/reports/txe/costs-fracking

Maybe it’s that new math they are teaching up at the university.  Where do these guys come up with these numbers?  Maybe the Texas Environmentalists should just follow the New York environmentalists and blame the spread of syphilis on fracking too. (see http://eagleford.org/new-yorkers-syphilis-is-a-reason-not-to-frack/

Eagle Ford News Opinion…. With these environmentalists – it’s really NOT about the fracking – per se.  What it’s really about is cheap, clean, good ole USA oil and gas.  See, becasue if we have plenty of cheap, clean, local oil and gas – then their wind and solar can’t get off the ground. Now don’t get us wrong – we’re all for alternative energy, where it makes sense.  Right now, we can’t meet our energy demands with wind and solar. Ask T. About the Railroad Commission

Established in 1891, the Railroad Commission of Texas is the oldest regulatory agency in the state. The Commission has a long and proud history of service to both Texas and to the nation, including more than 90 years regulating the oil and gas industry. Additionally, the Commission promotes research and education on the use of alternative fuels and has jurisdiction over gas utility, surface mining and pipeline industries. Our mission is to serve Texas by our stewardship of natural resources and the environment, our concern for personal and community safety, and our support of enhanced development and economic vitality for the benefit of Texans.

What the Railroad Commission has jurisdiction over and who to contact

The Railroad Commission regulates the exploration and production of oil and natural gas in Texas.  The Commission’s primary responsibilities include: preventing waste of oil and gas resources; protection of surface and subsurface water; and, ensuring all mineral interest owners have an opportunity to develop their fair share of the minerals underlying their property.

The RRC has provided an information page containing links to city, county, state, and federal governments within the Eagle Ford area.
